Introducing our second tea from the region, an impeccable first flush again to mark the start of 2026 Spring Season. Looks the same, smells the same while tasting even better. The folks at Wah Tea Estate work hard around the year, improving their craft one batch after the other. They grow camellia sinensis mostly at an altitude of 4000 feet, that seems like a good choice for low oxidation black tea, which is exactly what this is. It is one of the oldest tea plantation regions in India and their resilience to recover from 1905 earthquake is an inspiration for generations. After the British planters abandoned the region following the earthquake, it was rejuvenated by local planters and the government after Indian independence.
This batch is very special, with a fine blend of aromatics and taste on every sip. The dry leaf has a very sweet smell, resembling sweet dishes containing saffron. When placed on the heated ware, the creamy character comes to life and the tea exudes notes of honey, milk chocolate and pecan nuts. On your first sip, you can experience notes of honey and pear, as you sip further, you relish the taste of dried mango, custard apple and apricots. What was just a hint of pink flowers, translates into a full blown floral cup with notes of jasmine on the front. There is a hint of cucumber like freshness as well, with notes of saffron the sweeten it. There are hints of palm sugar and honey sweetness on all infusions and sips, making the whole drinking experience full of sweet notes. This tea is going to leave you refreshed and full of appreciation for tea making craft of Indian tea estates!
